Joyjeet das-memorial-school

This small school is in the Tollyngung ‘slum’ of Calcutta. Back in August of 2009, the school was facing financial difficulties and was under threat of closure. If this had happened, 312 children, between 2 and 16 year old, would have found themselves back in the streets and without a decent attempt to a future…

Foster Home

Om Shanti Home opened its doors on August 15 2010, a day care centre for 10 children whose lives were on the streets. We have been inundated with requests to care for children ever since and we have now a day care centre for boys and one for girls, with about 20 children so far.

Annual medical check

In March of 2010, we carried out the first medical check for all the children in the school. The results were not surprising: 92% of children were under nourished; 84% carried stomach or intestine parasites and 67% suffered from breathing difficulties…
